Acacia is the most significant genus of  family. It is estimated that there are roughly 1380 species of Acacia worldwide, Acacia species are commonly known as babool in india, medicinally have long been used for the various treatment. The fresh plants parts of Acacia Arabica is considered as astringent, demulcent, aphrodisiac, anthelmintic, antimicrobial, antidiarrhoeal with good nutritional value in Indian traditional medicine.



               The bark and pods  contain 12-20% tannin, several polyphenolic compounds have been reported from the bark and pods of the plant, the bark also releases a chemical which is known as babool gum, it is very effective to cure kapha and pitta according to ayurveda, the gum resin of the plant contain galactose, aldobia uronic acid and arabinobioses, it also contains about 52% of calcium and 20% magnesium. The flower contains flavonoids, kaempferol- 3 -glucosides, isoquercetin & leucocyanidin.

Some medicinal benefits of babool

1- It helps in treating arthritis, knee             pain, synovitis

     According to herbalist Take a pods of babool and make a powder of pods after drying it, and take this powder with lukewarm water after 1 hour of meal for atleast one month, this will give relieve from synovitis and knee pain. 
                   And for arthritis take babool gum powder  (3 grams) and added to cup of water, heated it for 2 - 3 minutes and consume once in a day .

2- help to make healthier teeth and               gums

     In ancient times, the branches of babool tree was used by people to brush teeth, even today many rural and tribal people use babool branches to brush teeth, babool reduce plaque & strengthen gums, today many tootpaste company use babool as a ingredients for there toothpaste.

3 - help to heal wound quickly

     The pods of babool tree are helpful in healing wounds and fracture, powder of the dry babool pods can be consumed in the shape of capsule and pills , you can also sprinkle pod powder on wounds directly for quick relief . Its cooling elements reduce inflammation and gives soothing effect.



4- for skin problems

   Bark and leaves of babool is used for getting relief from itching & dryness , due to its anti-inflammatory properties babool leaves are good for treating various other skin problem too, like eczema according to  some herbalist, bark of babool is also useful in treatment of Eczema, boil 25 gram of babool and mango bark in 1 litre of water in a such a way that vapours should foment the affected part and then apply ghee on the affected part after fomentation is done.

5- help to solve some eye problems

   For treating watering eye problem which is called epiphora, Some herbalist advised water of Babool leaves (250 gram of babool leaves are advised to be boiled in 2 litre of water, boil the leaves till one quarter of water is left ) filter this water and keep it in a water tight bottle, paint your eyes with these water twice a day for 40 to 45 minute preferably in morning and at night before sleep then wash your eyes with fresh water. Leaves of babool tree are also quite effective in treating conjunctivitis.

6- helps in treating diarrhea

    Flowers of babool tree are good for the health of lever, babool flowers are suggested to be eaten when you are suffering from diarrhoea, you can make powder of Babul flower or pods, Babool flowers are largely useful in treating nausea, hangover and vomiting, it is also known to be treat intestinal worms and get rid of them from system.

7- solve hair fall problem

   Apply the past of Babul leaves on scalp and after 30 minute wash your hair with good quality shampoo, this nourishing your hair and give strength to hair.

8- anti inflammatory action

     Some condition like tonsillitis  (inflammation of tonsils) is also treated with decoction of babul bark which reduces the symptoms of tonsillitis..
